About The J. Luce Foundation

"My goal is uplifting the most desperate of humanity while celebrating the best of humanity - especially education and the arts." – Jim Luce

The Mission of the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation, Inc. is to support young global leadership impacting positive social change and the NGOs that support them.  Projects of the Foundation include Orphans International Worldwide (OIWW), The International University Center Haiti (Uni Haiti), and The Stewardship Report (link).  The Foundation was envisioned upon the death of Jim's father, Stanford L. Luce, in 2008 and incorporated in New York State in 2011.

The Goals of the Foundation are to spotlight effective Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and NGO leadership involved in the Foundation’s areas of interest (below) displaying best practices to achieve maximum social impact with the least administrative overhead possible, to encourage NGOs and NGO leadership to cooperate, partner, and even merge with similar NGOs to create economies of scale necessary for best practices, and to encourage NGO leaders to work for as little remuneration as possible, holding administrative costs to be under 20%, allowing funds to flow towards social change.

The Commitment of the Foundation is to assist in the completion of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to adhere to the Earth Charter that outlines fundamental values to build a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society in the 21st century.  Uni Haiti, incubated by the Foundation, is a signatory to the global initiative launched by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to align higher education institutions with active support, collaborations, and partnerships focusing on educational opportunity, global citizenship, sustainability, the eradication of poverty through education, and the promotion of inter-cultural dialogue – the ‘unlearning of intolerance.’

Areas of Interest of the Foundation include geography and cause.  Regions of interest include Africa (Burundi, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania), The Americas (Columbia, Guyana, Haiti, Mexico) including communities in the U.S. (Native Territories, New York City, Puerto Rico), Asia (Afghanistan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Sri Lanka), and The Mideast (Israel, Palestine).  Causes of interest to the Foundation include the Arts, Children, the Environment, International Development, Public Health, Human Rights, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, Social Responsibility, and Women.
